It’s Mother’s Day soon, or Mothering Sunday to give it it’s proper name.

It’s a celebration of all things maternal… and the bandwagon has been well and truly jumped on with the equivalent for men… Father’s Day… and I’ve even heard of Grandparent’s Day being celebrated by some people (which is really stretching it in my opinion).

It’s always tough to think what to buy for your mother on this day.  A card is good… and flowers always are popular… here are some other mothers day gift ideas that you might like to consider:

  • perfume
  • a pampering session at a spa… or some items so she can do the same at home
  • a handbag
  • some clothes
  • some items to help her with her hobby… she’s sure to have one of those.

Did you see that Tweet by Gary Barlow before Christmas?  Yes… that Gary Barlow – the one out of Take that.

Lucky him… he was sent a box of retro sweets last December.  Apparently the retro sweets box included old fashoned sweets like Anglo Bubbly Bubblegum, Caramacs and Rhubarbs and Custards.  Lucky him… it sounds just like a box of traditional sweets that you would have found in the old fashioned sweetshop that used to be at the end of your road when you were young.

Anyway, Gary received the box and was so happy about it that he tweeted about it… and losts of national newspapers picked up on that and printed the story too.  Apparently the website that was used to send the sweets got a stack of additional orders that day – they are the largest online sweetshop in the UK and they are called A Quarter Of.  You can find their website at http://www.aquarterof.co.uk.

I know that I will be checking it out… I just love retro sweets.  I wonder if they still make Pacers

It’s always tough to find presents for men to give them on Fathers Day – don’t you find?

They always seem to have everything that they need, and pretty well everything that they want. And what sort of presents are socks or pants? Not the sort of gifts that I want to be giving, that’s for sure.

So I’m going to be much more creative this year… after all Dads deserve only the best Fathers Day gifts, don’t you agree?  It is time to hunt far and wide to find him the perfect present – something that really befits his status.  At least these days I can have a look around online.  I don’t have to walk up and down on the high street, or visit the over crowded shopping malls, instead I’ll take my fingers for a walk on my trusty keyboard.

One of the trends these days, especially online, is that you can find more and more gifts which you can personalise.  It makes it so much more special when your present features your own special message… after all you wouldn’t give your Dad a card without writing inside it would you?  So this year I think I will buy one of these customisable presents… but which of the personalised gifts for men to choose?  Now there’s a whole new can of worms!
